This summer you can discover the wildlife and sounds of nature through the voices of those living in the Mendip Hills and Weston’s South Ward with a free guided trail app! You can explore and unlock audio and animated illustrations, immersing yourself in the natural world in three locations (Mendip Hills near Winscombe, Uphill and Weston's South Ward).
Download the app before you set off. Stick your trainers on and grab a picnic, then follow the trail, unlocking interactive content at stops as you go. The app will be available until October 2025.
It's a brilliant, free way to get out and about, if you're an established walker, if it's your first time exploring and you'd appreciate a guided route, or if the interactive element will help keep the kids entertained on a walk during the summer holidays.
View Out was created by Gwyneth Herbert, Jason Singh, and Chris Howard with illustrations and programming by Fabric Lenny and poetry from the children of Windwhistle Primary School.
If you're curious as to how it works, Isaac has created a video below.
Thanks to Andy at Fernhill Farm, Tracy Reynolds, Chris Howard, Finlay, and Megan for their recordings.
