Nature Calling… High Weald

The High Weald National Landscape Partnership worked with textile artist Lucinda Button to engage with the Woodgate Community, which is a large new housing and hospice development, just outside Crawley. The Woodgate community is built alongside Tilgate Forest, an area of woodland that is a remnant of one of the four medieval forests within the High Weald.

Lucinda ran a series of walks around the Forest, using different art media to engage the local community with the landscape. The created artwork was then displayed in the Woodgate community hub at the end of the project.

Nature Calling High Weald also connected with the High Weald Walking Festival, an annual celebration of this unique area with over 50 guided walks taking place across the landscape during the week 13-21 September. For the first time the festival had two arts walks – one with Lucinda at Woodgate, and another with poet Jemma Borg around Mayfield, both walks were open to all.
